About Us
  | Llamas have been a part of Stege Springs for many years. We began dreaming of llamas while looking for unique family farming options that would allow us to raise our family in a traditional rural setting with limited land. Shannon knew from her livestock background that sheep are low labor and generally easy to raise. While looking into fine-fleece breeds of sheep, her fingers landed upon llama fiber. The fine, lightweight fiber of llamas and alpacas has no comparison to fine sheep wool. Then learning llamas are easier to raise than sheep made the decision clear. Stege Springs has a growing herd. About 25 llama and alpacas friends grace the lush, tree-lined pastures of Stege Springs. They all receive daily care and attention. We use Mallon and TTEAM methods to halter break and train our llamas. Several 4-H members also assist with training the animals while they learn about llama care, showing and enjoying the companionship of these special animals. Our entire family, including the dog, cats and goats, as well as our small children enjoy the llamas and alpacas. The most prized Stege Springs activity is to enjoy a quiet llama drawn cart ride. We are continually training many of our llamas to enjoy this peaceful pastime. | |
